I've been meaning to clean out my closet - would love to host a community clothing swap with you! Especially for men's clothes, i feel like its hard to sell or get rid of. Most boutiques only take women's clothing

That is so true, all of the ones I’ve gone to are definitely focused on women’s clothing. I’ll work on this and figure out some options we can tag onto! I’ve been wanting to do a solarpunk dc clothing swap collab anyway, so we could do this with CELI and one of the many swaps out there :)

In Austin, a woman has created an organization that collects clothing, shoes and accessories. She and volunteers sort for the free fridge, items for local charities and she sells some of the nicer items. Her space is curated like a second hand boutique and most items are $3 a piece. It’s become a favorite place to volunteer and donate

I don’t know an unhappy person who lives in Austin—and that’s probably why. So many good things are happening there that shape the way of living, I bet. Can’t wait to visit again soon!

That definitely sounds like an effort more committed to ensuring things don’t get thrown into the landfill. But all orgs have their place!

I also got denied at the Current Boutique in Arlington a couple weeks ago! Must happen to the best of us. Bet there's a really great support/clothes swap group to be had there.

Tough! Glad I’m not alone, haha. I definitely felt a bit discouraged but you’re right, there are some good swaps in the DMV - we are lucky for that!

Oh really?? Dang, yep—Current Boutique definitely has a place… just maybe not for those of us living the reduce-and-reuse life on a budget. It’s kinda like the glossy showroom of secondhand fashion—less about circular economy values and more about “gently loved, but still high-profit margins.” Which is fine!

Guess this means it’s time for us to unite, Holly! We definitely need to host a swap corner at our solarpunk dc flagship events. You bring the jackets, we’ll bring the free mangoes (jk… unless?) 🤣.
